Fort Barraux

Fort Barraux is a star-shaped fortress with five bastions positioned in a valley to control the main route between two major cities. Its walls and ramparts were designed to defend against attacks from multiple directions at once.

The fortress was built in the late 1500s but fell under French control shortly after and was extensively rebuilt. A renowned military engineer modernized it at the end of the 1600s using advanced fortification techniques.
