Fort de Villey-le-Sec, Military fortification museum in Villey-le-Sec, France
The fort extends across 20 hectares and contains artillery installations, defensive structures, and a narrow-gauge railway system for military supplies transportation.
Construction of Fort de Villey-le-Sec began in 1875 as part of the Séré de Rivières defense system, following France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War.
The preservation association La Citadelle maintains the fort since 1961, conducting restoration work and organizing educational tours about military architecture.
Visitors can access the fort from May to September on Sundays, with extended opening hours during July and August from Tuesday through Sunday.
This fortification encircles an entire village and features the last remaining 155mm gun turret in northern France, which remains operational for demonstrations.
