Hôtel de Comans d'Astry, hôtel particulier dans le 4e arrondissement de Paris

Welcome to the touristic guide of the Hôtel de Comans d'Astry or Hôtel de Richelieu, a beautiful Parisian mansion from the 17th century. This classic French architecture building has been partially protected as a historical monument and is located in the 4th district of Paris on the south coast of Île Saint-Louis, at 18 quai de Béthune. The mansion was built between 1644 and 1647 on the "Quai Dauphin" of the "Île Notre-Dame" and was named after its sponsor, Thomas de Comans d'Astryl, who was a counselor and ordinary master of the King's hotel. The design of this house was attributed in the 20th century, without formal proof, to the architect Louis Le Vau, then to Pierre Le Muet and, due to an error in the transcription of an old document, to Jean Androuet du Cerceau. However, more recently, a re-reading of the archives allowed Alexandre Cojannot to conclude that "from these elements, we can safely assume that Louis Le Vau was indeed the architect of the Hôtel d'Astry, at least from the beginning of 1645 until the end of the work." Thomas de Comans d'Astryl, who was a local resident like Anne, or Jeanne, Forget, his wife, from the rue de Touraine-au-Marais around 1634, lived on Île Notre-Dame in 1645, even before the completion of the hotel. In the 17th century, it became the residence of Louis François Armand de Vignerot du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu and great-nephew of Cardinal Richelieu. Visitors to the Hôtel de Comans d'Astry or Hôtel de Richelieu can admire the beautiful classic French architecture of the building. The mansion has been partially protected as a historical monument, which means that some parts of the building are not accessible to the public. However, visitors can still enjoy the exterior of the building and take pictures of its beautiful façade. The mansion is located in the 4th district of Paris, which is known for its charming streets, historic buildings, and trendy shops. Visitors can take a stroll around the neighborhood and explore the many boutiques, cafes, and restaurants that line the streets. In conclusion, the Hôtel de Comans d'Astry or Hôtel de Richelieu is a must-see attraction for anyone interested in classic French architecture and history. Its beautiful façade and rich history make it a unique destination for tourists visiting Paris.
