Hâble d'Ault

The Hâble d'Ault spans 161 hectares along the Picardy coast, featuring marshlands, grasslands, and gravel beaches between the chalk cliffs of Ault and Somme Bay.

The area functioned as a fishing port until the mid-18th century, when the construction of a pebble dyke between 1750 and 1773 transformed it into agricultural land.

The name 'hable' derives from ancient terms meaning harbor or refuge, reflecting its historical role as a shelter for fishing vessels along the French coast.

A 5-kilometer trail follows the coastline, offering observation points for waterfowl species, including swans and greylag geese throughout the natural reserve.

The reserve hosts over 270 bird species and contains rare flora such as Sea Kale and Compressed Rush, making it a critical stopover for migratory birds.
