Jardin naturel, Urban park in 20th arrondissement, France.
Jardin Naturel Pierre-Emmanuel is a green space at the base of Père-Lachaise Cemetery, featuring open meadows, water features, and limestone grasslands. The landscape offers varied habitats with open areas alternating with denser planted sections.
The park was created in 1995 following a landscape design competition won by architects Agnès Bochet and Laurent Gérard. The project aimed to restore natural environments at the edge of an urban neighborhood.
The garden honors French poet Pierre Emmanuel, whose grave lies in the neighboring Père-Lachaise Cemetery. The name creates a link between the park and the cemetery, reminding visitors of the literary heritage of the neighborhood.
The garden is open daily and can be reached via Rue de Lesseps or Rue de la Reunion, with Metro station Alexandre Dumas on line 2 nearby. The location is easy to reach on foot with accessible paths throughout.
The meadows are cut only two to three times annually, allowing local wildlife to flourish. This minimal mowing schedule preserves natural growth cycles and creates a wild feel in the heart of the city.
