Mont Mimat, Summit in Mende, France
Mont Mimat rises to 1068 meters and overlooks the city of Mende. Views from its peak extend across the Lot Valley and the Margeride region.
The mountain contains remains of a fortification called Chapieu on its southern slope, built to protect routes connecting Mende with the Regordane path. This defensive structure shows how important the pass was for medieval travel and trade.
The Grotto of Calvary was built in 1873 to commemorate Saint Privat, who sought spiritual solitude here during the third century. The site remains a place of pilgrimage where visitors can reflect on this early religious history.
Two paved roads lead to the summit: one from the Lot Valley via Cote de la Croix Neuve and another from Valdonnez valley through Langlade village. Either route offers straightforward access from Mende's main parking areas.
An illuminated iron cross was installed in 1933, replacing the original from 1900. The cross glows at night and serves as a recognizable landmark visible across the entire Mende basin.
