Musée de la chimie, Science museum in Jarrie, France
The Chemistry Museum is housed in the Clos Jouvin building and presents the development of chemistry from ancient times to modern applications. The space features laboratory benches where chemical reactions can be observed, along with materials documenting the industrial history of the area.
The museum was established in 1987 and is housed in a former estate that belonged to a glove-making family. The building was designed around 1880 by landscape architect Gabriel Luizet.
The exhibition shows how chemistry shaped the region's industrial development and its role in everyday life. Visitors can see how scientific advances changed the local economy.
The location is easy to access and features laboratory setups where visitors can watch chemical processes in action. School holidays are a good time to visit, as workshops designed for different age groups are offered during these periods.
The collection documents the development of the local chlorine industry, which began in 1915 to meet demands during World War I. This specialized industry remained an important economic factor for the region for many years.
