MuséoSeine, Museum in Rives-en-Seine, France

MuséoSeine is a museum in Caudebec-en-Caux, part of Rives-en-Seine in Normandy, dedicated to the history of the Seine river. Its interior uses interactive displays, 3D images, and videos, and large windows frame the river throughout the building.

The museum was created to preserve the collective memory of life along the Seine in Normandy, a river that shaped transport, fishing, and daily routines for centuries. It was established as the area's communities merged into the present-day town of Rives-en-Seine.

Part of the permanent collection is set on an old gribane, a flat-bottomed river boat once used on the Seine. Stepping on board gives visitors a sense of how the river looked and felt to the people who worked on it.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Mondays, with hours varying by season. It sits on Avenue Winston Churchill in Caudebec-en-Caux, right along the riverbank, and is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.

The museum features an exhibit on the mascaret, a rare tidal bore that once formed on the lower Seine when incoming tides pushed up the river. Sailors once feared this wave, and it shaped the rhythms of life along the banks for generations.
