Ouvrage La Salmagne

The fortification comprises two combat blocks connected by underground galleries containing barracks spaces and service areas beneath Block 1.

Built between 1934 and 1940 as part of the Maginot Line, the fort served as a defense structure during World War II until its surrender in May 1940.

The Association des Amis de la Forteresse du Secteur Fortifié de Maubeuge maintains this military heritage site, preserving its historical significance for future generations.

The fort features multiple weapon installations, including retractable turrets, mixed-arms observation posts, and embrasures for machine guns and anti-tank cannons.

Block 2 contains specialized defensive elements including two observation posts, one grenade launcher post, and a dual-purpose machine gun and anti-tank gun position.
