Musée d'Art sacré du Gard

The Musée d'Art Sacré du Gard occupies the medieval Maison des Chevaliers building, featuring religious artifacts and artworks spanning multiple centuries of French history.

The museum building dates back to the 12th century when wealthy grain merchants constructed it, and later served as a residence for the Piolenc family for over six centuries.

The museum represents a secular approach to religious art, displaying collections that include Egyptian sarcophagi, ancient portraits, and diverse religious objects from different faiths.

Museum access is free of charge, with opening hours from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM during September through June.

During restoration work in the 1990s, workers discovered a hidden 15th-century painting of a lady beneath a false ceiling in the medieval building.
