Montagne de Lachens

Montagne de Lachens is a summit in the Var department that rises to approximately 1700 meters, creating a natural transition zone between different climate regions. The northern slopes feature thick forest cover while the southern side remains more exposed with sparser plant growth.

The mountain area has been inhabited since ancient times, with remnants of defensive structures and a Roman military camp indicating long-term human settlement. These archaeological traces suggest the region served as an important passage and strategic location for centuries.

Local mountain communities maintain traditional festivals throughout the year, celebrating their connection to this highest peak of the Var department.

The summit can be reached by hiking trails starting from nearby villages, with routes varying in difficulty based on your starting point and experience level. A forest road from Col de Clavel offers an alternative approach that requires less climbing but takes more time overall.

The mountain marks a natural boundary between two distinctly different climate zones, something clearly visible in how the vegetation changes. On clear days visitors can see all the way to the island of Corsica from the summit, which lies far across the sea.
