Paléosite de Saint-Césaire

The Paléosite combines indoor exhibitions spanning 2000 square meters with outdoor installations across 18 hectares of preserved landscape in Haute Saintonge.

Excavations in 1979 revealed the remains of a young Neanderthal woman named Pierette, who lived in this region approximately 35,000 years ago.

The center features three cinema rooms and multiple interactive spaces that present the evolution of human species through multimedia displays and scientific reconstructions.

The facility opens from April to November, with tickets priced at 10 euros for adults and 6 euros for children between 6 and 12 years old.

Visitors can participate in archaeological excavations each morning during summer and experience prehistoric life through demonstrations of fire making and flint cutting.
