Oppidum of Corent

The Oppidum of Corent is a fortified Celtic settlement spread across a volcanic plateau covering about 50 hectares. The excavated remains reveal residential areas, craft workshops, and religious structures from the pre-Roman period.

The settlement emerged as a major center for the Arverni people during the 2nd century BCE and declined following the Gallic Wars and Roman conquest.

The sanctuary here contains multiple religious structures that reveal how Celtic people performed rituals and honored their gods in this space.

The site is freely accessible without entrance fees and allows exploration at your own pace. Information boards and downloadable guides help you understand what you are seeing as you walk through the excavated areas.

Excavations from 2011 revealed a Gallo-Roman theater built atop earlier wooden structures from the Celtic period. This discovery shows how Roman builders worked with and adapted what already existed on the site.
