Pont de Bellerive, Metal road bridge in Vichy, France
Pont de Bellerive is a metal bridge crossing the Allier River and connecting the towns of Vichy and Bellerive-sur-Allier with a sturdy steel framework. The structure handles a significant daily flow of traffic and forms a key link between the two communities on opposite banks.
The original structure was built in the mid-1800s after flood events destroyed earlier crossings in the area. The bridge later underwent substantial reinforcements to handle increasing transportation demands over the decades.
The bridge received substantial reinforcements in 1937, incorporating 1,400 tons of iron from the Fives-Lille factories to meet increasing transportation demands.
The bridge is open to traffic around the clock and provides free access for cars and all vehicles without tolls. Pedestrians and cyclists can also use it to cross between the two towns.
Originally named Pont de Vichy, the bridge changed its name when Bellerive-sur-Allier adopted its current designation in 1903.
