Pont de Jons, bridge in France
Pont de Jons is a road bridge that crosses the Rhône River between Niévroz and Jons. The concrete structure measures about 200 meters, consists of three spans with a longest section of about 90 meters, and was completed in 1977.
A suspension bridge previously stood at this site, opened in 1904 and destroyed by explosives during World War II in 1940. After the war, a temporary metal bridge served the crossing until the current concrete structure was built between 1975 and 1977.
The bridge is used daily by vehicles, buses, and pedestrians and offers good views of the surrounding landscape. Access is straightforward, and visitors can cross on foot or by bike.
Just downstream from the bridge lies the Jons Dam, which regulates the Rhône River and creates a small reservoir. This facility plays an important role in the region's water management and electricity production.
