French pyramids, Napoleonic pyramid near Falicon, France.
The stone pyramid rises three meters tall above a karst cave system, with its lower section maintaining its original geometric form and structure.
Built between 1803 and 1812 during Napoleon Bonaparte's rule, this structure emerged following the French military campaign in Egypt and Syria.
Local traditions connect the pyramid to Roman legionaries who might have used the cave below for ceremonies dedicated to the Persian deity Mithra.
Visitors can reach the pyramid through a 15-minute hike from Aire de St Michel, following marked trails in La Vallièra wilderness park.
The number of steps leading into the Ratapignata cave beneath the pyramid corresponds to the seven levels of Mithraic initiation ceremonies.
