Château Valrose, Gothic Revival castle in Nice, France

The castle features a concert hall for 400 people, decorated with frescoed ceilings and crystal chandeliers inside its neo-Gothic architecture.

Russian Baron Paul Von Derwies commissioned architect David Grimm to build this castle between 1867 and 1870 as his private residence.

From 1870 to 1881, the castle maintained a 70-member symphonic orchestra and hosted performances by violinist Joseph Joachim and singer Adelina Patti.

The castle now serves as part of the University of Nice, housing the Faculty of Sciences and administrative offices at 28 Avenue de Valrose.

The ten-hectare park contains an artificial lake, grottos, waterfalls, and provides habitat for 35 bird species, including herons and kingfishers.
