Villa Paradiso, 19th-century villa in Cimiez district, Nice, France
Villa Paradiso is a 19th-century residential estate in the Cimiez district that blends Italian villa design with French mansion features. The building displays a western loggia and modified Mansard roof that showcase how these two architectural styles were merged together.
Architect Lucien Barbet created the villa in 1881, and a decade later Constantin Scala undertook significant renovations in 1891. These reconstruction works substantially altered the original design and appearance.
The property served as temporary residence for Prix de Rome scholars during World War II when they relocated from Villa Medici in Rome.
The house sits near Boulevard de Cimiez and is easy to locate using mapping tools. Visitors can explore the surrounding Cimiez neighborhood to see how the villa fits within the broader local context.
From 1957 to 2006, an international summer school operated here each year, attracting students from many different countries. This academy turned the building into an important venue for artistic and scholarly training in the region.
