Roches de Ham

Roches de Ham is a granite rock formation rising above the Vire Valley, accessible via hiking trails that wind through the area. Multiple viewpoints are positioned to overlook the river below and the rolling countryside beyond.

The granite cliffs formed more than 300 million years ago during ancient mountain-building periods. During World War II, the elevated position served as a lookout post for monitoring the valley below.

Local residents maintain hiking trails and organize nature walks to educate visitors about the geological formations and regional plant species.

A parking area sits at the base of the site, making access straightforward for most visitors. Sturdy footwear is advisable since paths can be steep and become slippery when wet.

The rock walls reveal multiple layers that record millions of years of Earth's history in stone. Observant visitors can spot these different geological bands and understand how the landscape changed over deep time.
