Tour Tanguy, Medieval tower in downtown Brest, France
The Tour Tanguy stands on a rocky elevation next to the Penfeld River, featuring thick stone walls and a distinctive Neo Gothic cornice.
Constructed in the 14th century during the Breton War of Succession, the tower functioned as a strategic defensive structure against English forces.
The Museum of Old Brest within the tower displays detailed dioramas created by artist Jim Sévellec, depicting the city before World War II.
The tower opens Wednesday and Thursday from 14:00 to 17:00, Saturday and Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00, with admission at 6 euros for adults.
The third floor provides access to a panoramic view of Brest harbor, enhanced by augmented reality projections showing historical city views.

Brest, a port city in Finistère, has an important maritime and military heritage. The city hosts Océanopolis, an ocean discovery center, several museums including the National Maritime Museum, historical fortifications, and cultural spaces like Les Ateliers des Capucins. The military and commercial port structures the city, complemented by natural sites, beaches, and gardens. Post-war reconstruction architecture coexists with preserved elements like Saint-Malo Street and the Tanguy Tower.
