Triops, Steel roller coaster in Parc Bagatelle, France

Triops is a steel shuttle roller coaster at Parc Bagatelle, an Invertigo model built by Vekoma. Its yellow track runs on two parallel rails and a spine, with a long lift hill, two vertical loops side by side and yellow support columns above a low white and grey building complex. Riders hang beneath the rails in a seven-car train, seated in pairs facing each other.

Built by Vekoma for 35 million Swedish kronor, the ride opened at Liseberg in 1997 as HangOver after electromagnetic launch technology failed and a chain lift was substituted. It closed in 2002 and was sold to Allou Fun Park in Greece, where it was stored but never assembled. It ran at Sommerland Syd in Denmark as Tornado from 2 July 2005 until 2011, then opened at Parc Bagatelle as Triops on 30 June 2012.

Bagatelle's managers named the ride after the triops, a crustacean that swims upside down and performs loopings, a reference to the inverted, looping track. The ride opened to the press on 5 July 2012. In a 2018 park ranking of ride popularity it placed fifteenth, behind the Gaz Express, Raft and River Splatch.

Triops stands on a footprint of about 86 by 30 metres and reaches 45 metres, the height of the Berck lighthouse. The single seven-car train carries two rows of two riders per car, giving a capacity of 840 people per hour. The ride is occasionally closed for breakdowns, so check its status on arrival.

Triops is an Invertigo shuttle coaster: the train runs the circuit forwards, is pulled up a second lift, then runs it backwards. Its name comes from the triops crustacean, which swims upside down and performs loops, as Bagatelle's managers explained when the ride opened in 2012.
