Viaduc de la Côtière, Highway bridge in La Boisse and Beynost, France
The Côtière viaduct is a concrete bridge that spans 1210 meters and rises about 50 meters high. It connects the A46 and A42 highways while crossing over road RD1084 and the Lyon-Perrache to Geneva railway line.
Construction took place between 2008 and 2011 under the direction of architects Christophe Chéron and Thomas Lavigne. It was built as part of regional infrastructure development to improve traffic connections between Lyon and the Alpine regions.
The viaduct demonstrates modern French engineering and stands beside a separate railway structure serving the high-speed line to Geneva. It shapes the landscape of this region between Lyon and the Alps.
The viaduct is easily accessible from nearby highway exits and provides good views of the region's transportation network. Visitors can photograph the structure from surrounding roads or observe it from viewpoints along the RD1084.
The structure was built alongside a separate railway bridge that also crosses this route. This parallel arrangement shows how highway and rail infrastructure projects are planned side by side in modern times.
