Greenway of the High Vosges, Multi-activity trail in High Vosges, France
The Greenway of the High Vosges consists of two paved routes starting from Remiremont that run through mountain valleys. The northern branch follows the Moselle River toward Bussang, while the southern branch winds through the Moselotte Valley.
The northern section opened in 1999, with the southern branch completed in September 2007. Both routes follow former railway corridors that once connected these mountain communities.
The People's Theater in Bussang, founded in the late 1800s, hosts summer performances that draw visitors along the southern section. This tradition reflects how the valley has long served as a place where people gather for shared cultural experiences.
Rest areas with picnic tables appear every 3 to 4 kilometers on both branches, with water and restroom facilities at the Remiremont starting point. The routes work well for walking, cycling, or family outings and are mostly flat.
The path follows old railway lines and features converted train stations that now serve as information centers and rest stops. These repurposed buildings give the route a connection to the region's past transport history.
