Pont-Vieux d'Orthez

The stone bridge spans across the Gave de Pau river with four arches and features a fortified central tower reaching a total length of 46 meters.

Built during the 13th century under Gaston VII of Béarn's rule, the bridge initially had one span and two towers, as depicted on a 1274 coin.

The bridge served as a strategic defense point during the 1814 Battle of Orthez when Marshal Soult's soldiers held the tower for an entire day.

The road surface measures 3.80 meters between parapets, connecting Orthez city center to the Départ district across the Gave de Pau river.

The central tower underwent restoration in 1873 to match its original design, although the current crenellation and roof structure reflect modern modifications.
