Église Notre-Dame de Bordeaux

Notre-Dame is a baroque church in the Golden Triangle of Bordeaux with a distinctive facade featuring a relief depicting the Virgin Mary presenting a rosary to Saint Dominic. The interior is equipped with chapels and displays decorative elements throughout.

The Dominicans commissioned architects Pierre-Michel Duplessy and Mathieu Labat to build this church, which was completed in 1707. The project emerged during a period of religious growth and demonstrates the importance of the Dominican order in Bordeaux at that time.

The church holds religious artworks from the 17th century, including ten scenes by Frere Andre in the chapels and elaborate trompe-l'oeil paintings on the walls. These works tell biblical stories and create a visual impression of depth and movement inside.

Visits are possible on Monday afternoons and Tuesday through Saturday, with limited hours on Sundays for visitors. It is advisable to check exact opening times in advance, as these may vary by season and religious events.

The organ was built in 1775 and features 58 stops plus over 4000 pipes, making it a significant musical instrument in the region. This impressive work showcases the craftsmanship of organ builders from that era.
