Église Sainte-Thérèse d'Angers, Gothic Revival church in Doutre district, Angers, France.

Description

Église Sainte-Thérèse is a Gothic Revival church in the Doutre district that follows a basilica layout spanning seven bays. The structure features a straight choir section leading to a five-sided apse, with adjoining sacristies providing functional support.

History

Architect Alfred Tessier designed and constructed the church between 1857 and 1862 to serve the expanding population in northern Doutre. The building's completion coincided with a period of growth for this district.

Culture

The interior displays ornamental floral and geometric motifs that cover the walls and vault surfaces throughout. These decorative elements create a visually unified space that guides the eye upward through the building.

Practical

The building is located at Place Sainte-Thérèse and welcomes visitors during Saturday evening and Sunday morning services. Access may be limited outside these times, so planning your visit around these hours ensures you can enter the church.

Did you know?

The church was designated as a historical monument in 2006 and safeguards a collection of protected furnishings and religious objects. These items reflect the original interior arrangement that has remained largely unchanged since the 19th century.
