Elephant, Rock formation in Larchant Forest, France
Elephant is a rock formation made of sandstone blocks in the forest of La Commanderie near Larchant. The blocks are arranged so distinctly that they clearly resemble an elephant's shape when viewed from certain angles.
The formation was originally documented as part of a group of rocks called the Justice Rocks. Over time, natural geological processes reshaped the sandstone blocks into their current elephant-like appearance.
Local climbers have marked several color-coded routes on the formation, reflecting how the rock is used as a training ground by the climbing community. The different difficulty levels show how people have adapted the natural feature for their recreational practice.
The formation sits near hiking trail GR 13, which makes it relatively easy to reach while exploring the forest. Visitors can view and examine the rocks from several different angles around the site.
The rock includes six distinct climbing routes with varying technical difficulty levels marked by color. This has made it a popular training spot where climbers can practice and progress through different skill levels.
