Château d'Arlempdes

The fortress stands on a volcanic peak above the Loire Valley, featuring six round towers, one square tower, and fortified walls dividing the structure.

First mentioned in a papal bull by Pope Clement IV in 1267, the castle underwent major renovations during the 15th century under Diane de Poitiers's influence.

The Saint James chapel, dating from the 12th century, represents the only remaining part of the original castle and displays red stone architecture.

Visitors can obtain entry tickets and keys at the Manoir restaurant, with guided tours available from July through August for groups of ten or more people.

The castle's defensive structure incorporates natural volcanic rock formations into its ramparts, creating an integrated fortification system against northern attacks.
