Château d'Opme, Medieval castle in Romagnat, France

The stone castle features five towers around a central courtyard, with three towers remaining intact and a square keep added in the 12th century.

Built in the late 11th century, the castle controlled the Roman road connecting Clermont to Puy-en-Velay and belonged to the Counts of Auvergne.

The castle gardens display French formal design principles with two terraces, a circular basin, and a Renaissance fountain created by Androuet du Cerceau.

Visitors can tour the castle and its gardens from Easter to All Saints' Day, with extended hours during summer months except for Tuesdays.

General de Lattre de Tassigny established a military training school at the castle in 1940, leading to the creation of a museum in his honor.
