The Château de Kolbsheim stands on elevated ground with French-style terraced gardens spanning 1.5 hectares and an English park extending 10 hectares to the Bruche river.
Built in 1703, the castle's west wing replaced an earlier residence of the Müllenheim-Rechberg family, while the south wing was added in 1843 by Jean Georges Humann.
The gardens of Kolbsheim reflect the spiritual journey of the Grunelius family, featuring sculptures by Philippe Kaeppelin and connections to philosophers Jacques and Raïssa Maritain.
The castle gardens welcome visitors from March to September, Wednesday through Sunday between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with an entrance fee of 5 euros.
The property combines architectural elements from Eastern France, including imperial pavilions and double-slope roofs, with both French formal gardens and English landscape design.
