Château de La Coste

Château de La Coste is a stone castle rising above the landscape with medieval architecture featuring defensive towers and multiple courtyards. The structure largely retains its original sandstone construction despite portions being lost over the centuries.

The castle was built in the 12th century and underwent major reconstruction in the 13th century following destruction around 1250. This rebuilding phase introduced stronger fortification walls that reinforced the structure.

The chapel inside shows traces of how people once lived and prayed within the fortress walls during medieval times. Visitors can still see how religious spaces were built directly into the defensive structure.

Since the castle holds protected heritage status, plan your visit in advance and check current conditions before going. Access may be seasonal or require special arrangements depending on conservation needs.

The original sandstone blocks are still visible and show the craftsmanship of medieval stonemasons. The way these stones were cut and fitted together reveals much about building techniques from that era.
