Cimetière de La Madeleine d'Amiens, Historic cemetery in Amiens, France

The La Madeleine Cemetery extends across 18 hectares with winding paths and flower-lined walkways, featuring numerous funerary monuments and sculptures throughout the grounds.

Following Louis XVI's 1776 ordinance requiring cemeteries to relocate outside city centers for health reasons, this cemetery opened on July 13, 1817 on former plague hospital grounds.

The cemetery contains the final resting places of notable French figures, including author Jules Verne, astronomer Frederic Petit, and architect Emile Ricquier.

Located at 474 Rue Saint-Maurice in Amiens, the cemetery offers free entry year-round and includes wheelchair access, though assistance is recommended due to varying ground levels.

The cemetery's design by architect François Auguste Cheussey and gardener Fontaine incorporates English landscape principles with curved paths and floral perspectives.
