Parc Zoologique de la Petite Hotoie

The Parc Zoologique de la Petite Hotoie is an animal park in Amiens covering roughly 7 hectares with around 700 animals from about 100 different species. The facility sits close to the city center and displays animals in enclosures designed to reflect their natural habitats.

The zoo was founded in 1952 during a trade fair in Picardy and initially relied on animals borrowed from other facilities. In its early years, animals came from sources including the Paris Zoological Park and the Cleres Zoological Park.

The park takes its name from a historic neighborhood of Amiens and creates enclosures designed to resemble natural habitats. Visitors can observe how different animal species are arranged in settings that match their typical living conditions.

The park is easily accessible on foot and fully wheelchair accessible, making it simple to explore the entire grounds. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time, as pathways wind through various animal enclosures and areas.

The zoo participates in rescue programs for endangered species such as red pandas in Nepal and sulcata tortoises in Senegal. These efforts show how the facility contributes globally to protecting vulnerable animal populations.
