Zoo d'Amiens, Animal conservation center in Amiens, France

Zoo d'Amiens spans about 7 hectares near the city center and houses around 700 animals representing roughly 120 species from five continents. The enclosures are designed to recreate natural habitats and allow animals to exhibit typical behaviors.

Established more than 70 years ago, the facility has grown into a research center dedicated to animal welfare and conservation. Over time, it developed partnerships with international organizations focused on species protection.

The zoo serves as a learning hub where visitors encounter educational programs and live demonstrations focused on wildlife protection. These activities help people understand the challenges facing animals in their natural habitats.

The zoo features a restaurant housed in a 19th-century building, covered picnic areas, and a gift shop for visitors. Plan to spend three to four hours to comfortably explore the grounds at your own pace.

The zoo participates in global species rescue efforts, including red panda breeding programs in Nepal and spurred tortoise reintroduction in Senegal. These projects demonstrate how facilities work to restore endangered populations in their native regions.
