Château de Cadreils, Castle monument in Berrac, France
Château de Cadreils is a stone structure with clear geometric forms at its core. A round tower anchors the north side and a square tower the south, creating a courtyard between them, while the southern side features an open gallery for decoration.
The building emerged later in construction on remains of an older structure from the 15th century. During World War II, it offered shelter to people who had to leave their homes.
The castle displays building elements from different periods that become visible as you walk around it. The southern facade with its gallery and curved balustrade tells the story of the artistic tastes of those who shaped it.
The building is private property and therefore not open for public visits inside. However, the facades and roofs are protected as historical monuments, so you can examine the architecture from outside.
The southern entrance door from 1689 displays carefully crafted panel doors with artistic details. A separate dovecote building from 1690 beside it features an unusual roof detail that recalls a specific regional style.
