Château de Brangues

Château de Brangues is a castle near the Rhone river featuring two towers, multiple wings, and an orangery set within 17 hectares of grounds. The property retains its distinctive P-shaped layout with thick defensive walls that reveal its medieval origins.

The Rossillon family initiated construction in the 14th century with a fortified tower that would serve as the building's core. The Bathernay family later expanded the structure in the late 15th century.

Paul Claudel made his home here from 1927 onward, using the castle as a gathering place for writers and artists. The rooms still show traces of these creative gatherings that shaped the property's character.

The castle lies roughly one hour away from both Lyon and Grenoble, making it accessible for a day trip from either city. Full interior visits happen during Heritage Days, though the tomb of Paul Claudel remains accessible year-round.
