Couvent de Bischenberg

Couvent de Bischenberg is a hilltop convent near Bischoffsheim with buildings from different time periods. The oldest sections feature vaulted ceilings and raised ground floors, while the grounds hold chapels, living spaces, and farm buildings spread across the site.

The convent's first written record appeared in 1505, with the choir built between 1506 and 1541 under Bishop Guillaume de Honstein's leadership. This founding period established it as a religious center that would shape the area for centuries.

The chapel honors Our Lady of Seven Sorrows and has drawn pilgrims for centuries seeking a quiet place for prayer. Today visitors still come to this hilltop sanctuary, making it an active spiritual destination in the region.

Visitors can walk the pilgrimage path to explore the site and visit different chapels scattered across the grounds. The hilltop location provides good views and helps you understand how the various buildings relate to each other.

The Way of the Cross was established in 1732 as one of the earliest examples in Alsace, maintained by pilgrims and faithful visitors across generations. Repeated restorations have kept this route intact, making it still a key part of the visit today.
