Tour de l'Horloge, Medieval stone tower in Dinan, France

The Tour de l'Horloge rises 43 meters above Dinan with a square base transitioning into an octagonal shape at the fourth level.

Construction of the tower began between 1475 and 1480 under Governor Jehan II de Rosnyvinen as a communal building for meetings and fire surveillance.

The tower houses five bells, including the Duchesse Anne bell that marks each hour and represents the municipal authority granted by Anne of Brittany.

Visitors can access the tower from February through October, with extended hours from April to September and reduced schedules on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The tower contains one of Europe's oldest clock mechanisms, manufactured in Nantes by German craftsman Hamzer in 1498.
