Château de Penmarc'h, Medieval manor house in Saint-Frégant, France
The Château de Penmarc'h is a 16th-century manor with a central residence, a western wing, and a square keep topped with defensive stonework. Rows of cross-patterned windows and a round corner tower with crenellations define its structure.
The manor was built around 1540 for the Penmarc'h family and displays the date 1546 at its main entrance. An isolated tower from the previous century was incorporated into the later construction.
The ornate Renaissance fireplace inside the square tower shows how noble families furnished their rooms in 16th century Brittany. The decorated stonework reflects the wealth and taste of that period.
The property is private and interior visits are not available to the public following its listing as a historic monument in 1932. You can view and photograph the exterior and its architectural features from outside the grounds.
A circular corner tower with crenellations stands on the grounds, blending defensive medieval elements with residential design. This unusual feature shows how military architecture still influenced domestic buildings in the late 1500s.
