Musée archéologique Arkéos, Archaeological museum in Douai, France

Arkéos is an archaeological museum in Douai that presents finds from the early Stone Age through the medieval period. The exhibits are organized in chronological sections showing objects and tools from various periods of human settlement in the region.

The museum opened in 2014 and houses important discoveries including ancient stone tools and skull fragments dating back over 180,000 years. These findings demonstrate that humans have inhabited this area for an extremely long time.

The collection displays artifacts from a medieval abbey as well as objects recovered through decades of excavations in the city. Visitors can see how people lived and worked across different periods in this region.

The museum is open daily except Tuesdays, with longer hours during warmer months and shorter hours in the colder season. Allow one to two hours to comfortably explore the exhibits and read the information provided.

An adjoining archaeological park displays reconstructed medieval buildings and a traditional tavern, allowing visitors to experience how people lived and gathered in past times. The park offers a hands-on way to understand daily life during the medieval period.
