Place de l'Etoile

Place de l'Etoile is a central square in Strasbourg featuring green spaces, benches, and mature trees creating thick canopy coverage. The site includes varied elevation levels, with a southern mound supporting dense tree growth and paved pathways connecting different sections.

The square was created in 2005 when a former parking area was transformed into a park. This change marked a major shift, as the land had remained largely undeveloped for decades since 1938.

The square's name comes from its star-shaped arrangement of pathways radiating outward from the center. Visitors notice this layout naturally as they walk, with routes leading in multiple directions from a central point.

The northern section offers parking for tour buses, making group access straightforward. Multiple pedestrian pathways allow easy navigation between sections and connections to surrounding neighborhoods.

Tons of earth were brought in to create the southern mound, which now supports a dense wooded area. This artificial elevation is the result of remarkable reshaping that transformed the flat parking lot into terrain with varied topography.
