Zoo de Vendeuil is a wildlife park spread across approximately 13 hectares in northern France. The grounds contain multiple animal habitats designed to showcase different species in naturalistic settings.
The zoo was founded in 1964 by Mr. Caucheteux on the grounds of a former military fortress built in 1880. This transformation converted a historic military site into a space dedicated to animal care and display.
The zoo served as a central educational facility for local schools, offering programs about wildlife conservation and environmental protection.
Wear comfortable walking shoes as exploring all the animal areas requires moving across the grounds. Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon tends to be more rewarding since animals are generally more active during these times.
During the mid-1980s, the zoo attracted approximately 80,000 visitors annually, making it a major regional attraction. In 1988, French actress Brigitte Bardot purchased 60 animals from the facility to relocate them to another sanctuary, a notable moment in the zoo's story.
