Parc Schulmeister, Public park in the Meinau neighborhood, Strasbourg, France
Parc Schulmeister, also called parc de la Meinau, is a public green space in the Meinau district of Strasbourg, France. It covers about 7 hectares (17 acres), including a pond of roughly 1 hectare (2.5 acres), and features a network of paths, lawns, and trees.
The park was laid out in 1807 around a château built by Charles Louis Schulmeister. After the château was destroyed in 1874, the grounds became a public park in 1933 and were redesigned in their current form in 1971.
The name Meinau comes from the German "Meine Aue", meaning "my meadow", a name given by the park's founder. Today, locals use the lawns for picnics and games, and the paths for walking and jogging, especially on weekends.
The park is easy to reach on foot or by bike, with entrances along rue du Rhin Tortu. Paths are mostly flat and unpaved, so comfortable shoes are a good idea, and benches are placed along the way for resting.
The central water feature was dredged and reconnected to the river during a recent renovation, and three lagoon basins were added in a cascade. Large maples were planted to encourage biodiversity.
