Réserve naturelle régionale de la forteresse de Mimoyecques

The regional nature reserve at Landrethun-le-Nord is an underground complex with multiple levels built during the war. Today it serves as a shelter for various bat species and can be explored via walking paths.

During World War II, the German military built this underground complex as part of its defensive plans. The project was later abandoned, and the installation survived as a historical remnant from that era.

The site blends military history with nature protection, showing how a former military installation has become a habitat for wildlife. Visitors can see how nature and human history coexist in the same space today.

The site is open to visitors and features marked paths for exploration. It is advisable to check local conditions before visiting and wear appropriate footwear, as the ground can be uneven.

The underground complex is home to eleven different bat species and serves as one of the region's most important winter shelters. This unexpected role as an animal refuge makes the site a striking example of nature reclaiming human ruins.
