Base aérienne 922 Doullens, Military radar station in Doullens, France
Base aérienne 922 Doullens is a military radar station operated by the French Air Force with command structures located in Doullens and operational radar installations positioned on the Lucheux plateau. The facility was designed to monitor air traffic across a large region using ground-based detection equipment.
The base was established in September 1951 as Master Radar Station 12/901 and underwent a major transformation in 1964 when it became Detection and Control Center 05/922. A three-dimensional Palmier radar system was added in 1968 to significantly improve detection and monitoring capabilities.
The station maintained connections among military personnel through gatherings and social events, fostering professional relationships within the French Air Force community.
As an active military installation, this facility is not open to the public and access is strictly restricted for security reasons. Visitors can explore the surrounding areas and local history in and around Doullens instead.
In 1972, the facility established an automatic link to the CAUTRA system to coordinate military and civilian aviation operations more effectively. This early integration between military and civil air traffic systems represented advanced coordination practices for the time.
