Castle of la Duchère, Medieval castle in 9th arrondissement of Lyon, France

The castle of la Duchère stands on elevated ground with stone walls and architectural elements from different construction periods between the 14th and 17th centuries.

Bernard de Varey de la Duchère, a city counselor in Lyon, became the first documented owner of the castle property in the year 1300.

King Henry IV of France stayed at the castle during his visit to Lyon for his marriage celebration with Marie de Medici.

The castle underwent demolition in 1972-1973, leaving only the remains of a washhouse constructed in 1661 for current visitors to examine.

Historical engravings of the castle created by artists Joannès Drevet and Joseph Fructus-Rey provide documentation of its original appearance.
