Castle of la Duchère

The castle of la Duchère was a fortified residence built on elevated terrain with stone walls constructed over several centuries. Today only a washhouse from the 17th century remains from the original complex.

The property first appeared in records around 1300 when a wealthy city official acquired the land. Over the next four centuries the structure was expanded and modified by successive owners.

This place held significance as a residence for Lyon's powerful families and hosted important gatherings. The washhouse that remains today reflects how daily life once functioned within the castle grounds.

Access to the site is limited since only minimal remains of the original structure exist. Visitors should learn about the local history beforehand to fully appreciate what this small remnant represents today.
