Trottoir National Cemetery, Military necropolis in Les Éparges, France.
Trottoir National Cemetery is located in Les Éparges and contains burial sites of soldiers from World War I. The grounds combine individual graves with a vault holding the remains of hundreds of fallen soldiers in an area that is carefully maintained today.
The cemetery was created in 1915 during battles in the Meuse region to receive the many war dead. Between 1922 and 1934, the grounds were redesigned and expanded to provide proper space for all fallen soldiers.
The cemetery takes its name from the elongated shape of the land where it was established. Visitors see carefully maintained rows of graves that express how France remembers its fallen soldiers.
The grounds are accessible year-round and can be reached via roads D903 and D154. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for walking through sloping terrain.
The cemetery received UNESCO World Heritage status in 2023 as part of First World War memorials on the Western Front. This recognition highlights how important these sites are for understanding modern warfare.
