Château du Fresne

Château du Fresne is a château in Authon, central France, featuring a main building with a Mansard roof, dormer windows, and two side pavilions. One pavilion contains a chapel while the other houses a bathhouse, with the property surrounded by gardens and grounds.

Construction of the present building took place between 1766 and 1770 under the direction of François-Joseph Legrand de Marizy, following designs by architect Anatole Amoudru. This period coincided with Enlightenment ideals and produced a structure reflecting the tastes of French aristocracy at that time.

The château displays classical French architectural balance with symmetrical design and proportioned elements typical of 18th-century noble estates. The chapel and bathhouse pavilions reflect the wealth and refinement of aristocratic life during this period.

The château is open to visitors during summer months from June through August 15, allowing exploration of its architecture and grounds. Wear sturdy footwear as the historic gardens and park areas retain their original terrain with uneven surfaces.

The chapel within the property hosted a significant wedding ceremony that attracted national attention in France during the 1950s. This momentary connection to prominent national figures gave the quiet location a brief link to wider history.
