Bibliothèque municipale de Nantes

The Municipal Library of Nantes operates through eight locations, including four mediatheques and four libraries, employing over 150 staff members throughout the network.

Founded in 1753, the library temporarily relocated to the Museum of Fine Arts in 1881, where approximately 400,000 books are currently stored.

The library network organizes reading workshops, creative writing sessions, and literature events, with specialized programs at Floresca Guépin mediatheque for visitors with disabilities.

The central Jacques Demy mediatheque, opened in 1985, serves as the main hub of the Nantes library system, offering extensive collections and multimedia resources.

The library maintains a specialized heritage collection called Bermond-Boquié, which includes rare children's books and educational materials about various subjects including dinosaurs.
