The King's, then Queen's stables, Royal stables in Versailles, France

The King's stables stand at 5 Carnot Street, featuring single-level brick buildings with mansard roofs in Louis XIV architectural style.

Built in 1672, these stables employed hundreds of staff before being replaced by the Petite and Grande Écurie in the 1680s.

The stables reflect the French monarchy's dedication to equestrian pursuits, housing specialized personnel from horsemen to blacksmiths and musicians.

The former royal stables now serve as the Versailles Court of Appeal and received monument historique classification in 1978.

After the original stables proved insufficient for royal needs, they transferred to the Queen's use, leading to their dual historical name.
